Fort Scott, Kansas - U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, R-Kan., representatives of the City of Fort Scott and Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce joined Carlisle company officials, for a tour of Carlisle Transportation Products, winner of the chamber's Business of the Year award. The award honors the business that continually expands, improves and benefits the Fort Scott area through its achievements and accomplishments.

Moran, who said he was pleased to be back in Fort Scott, talked with company officials about operations at the 125,000-square-foot manufacturing plant, then toured the plant to view the company's machinery, equipment and products.

Plant Manager Gary Richards discussed how the company last year shut down a plant in China that employed 350 people and moved operations to the Fort Scott plant. The change not only doubled production, but added 20 jobs. The company had already increased its number of employees by 15 percent in 2012 in anticipation of increased production. Moving production to the U.S. means that customers receive products quicker. It often took months to ship products from the China plant to the U.S.

The Fort Scott plant manufactures agricultural and industrial belts which are used on air compressors, lawn mowers and combines. Some of Carlisle’s customers include John Deere, Emerson and Husqvarna. Carlisle has been part of the local manufacturing sector since 1986. The current facility, which sits on 23-plus acres, expanded in 2005. The company has 219 employees and produces 800,000 to 1 million belts each month.

Carlisle Transportation Products, headquartered in Franklin, TN, is a division of Carlisle Companies, Inc., a global diversified company that designs, manufactures and markets products that serve niche markets including commercial roofing, energy, agriculture, lawn and garden, mining and construction equipment, aerospace and electronics, dining and food delivery, and healthcare.
